Five Cookware Usually Found In Your Kitchen
In simpler terms cookware are known as pots and pans. These are the utensils you commonly find in the kitchen. And as the name implies these are the materials used when cooking. Cookware comes in various shapes and sizes and each also has different functions. These pots and pans cook food in their own unique way. Although to some these cooking utensils look and function the same, to professionals each pot and pan varies in its cooking capacity. To make things easier to understand some of these pots and pans are briefly discussed below.
1. Frying pan. This is also known as the skillet. However the two are not one and the same. Skillets have a special feature which is a lip on its rim which helps make pouring easier while the frying pan doesn't have one. Both types of pans have a wide base and are shallow; these characteristics are ideal when frying meat, fish and even vegetables. A non-stick surface is common for both along with an elongated handle. The materials used for frying pans and skillets are heavyweight and are very sensitive to heat.
2. Steamers. Have you noticed those pans that stack up and have holes at the bottom except for the bottom pan? Well what you have seen is a steamer. From the name itself it is rather obvious that when you cook food with a steamer it uses steam to cook it. Steam is generated from the bottom pan which is half filled with water. The reason for the holes at the bottom of each pan is that it allows the steam to pass through cooking each food placed on each pan. And in order to contain the steam a top cover usually comes with the set.
3. Sauce Pan. If you like to cook sauces for the various dishes you create then this type is for you. Although it is named a sauce pan you can also use this pan for other dishes like cooking meat and vegetables along with soups and stews. These pans are usually round with handles. Larger pans are usually known as soup pots.
4. Braiser. These pots are deep and round. Placing meat in a braiser allows it to soak and get all tender at the same time. It is said that meat tends to taste better when it is cooked slowly. Braisers have handles on both sides so that when you are done it will be easy for you to take it out of the stove.
5. Casserole. This type of cookware can be used in two ways; it can be used for the oven and as a serving dish. Casseroles are usually round or oval in shape, deep and large. It is usually used to cook vegetables, meats, pastas and even rice. Casseroles can also be used to cook food on the stove top but it will depend on the material it is made from.
So if you want to create a sumptuous meal take time to consider the cooking utensils you're using. Use the appropriate cookware and you will surely make each meal delightful.
