Five Tips When Caring For Your Cookware
It is a day to day routine for every homemaker to prepare meals for the family. Basically meals are cooked although some of it may be heated using the microwave oven and the rest are usually prepared using the stove. When stove cooking various types of cookware are used ranging from the frying pan, the steamer and even the braiser.
The remnants of that tasty meal are not only found on the plates but also on the pot or pan used to cook and serve it. It is only natural after a feast or meal to clean up. Although cleaning up is as easy as one two three, when it comes to your cookware there are some tips that you can follow especially if you want your cookware to last longer. Aside from tips on cleaning your cookware there also other tips on caring for your beloved pots and pans.
1. For non-stick pans avoid using scouring pads and abrasive cleaners as this will surely damage the surface of the pan. When washing these, use hot soapy water or a non-abrasive cleaner and a sponge or dishcloth. Keep in mind that when you damage the surface the non-stick property of the pan will be affected.
2. For aluminium cookware avoid washing it with hard water or else the aluminium will darken. Instead use hot soapy water and in cases of stains you can use cream of tartar or water paste.
3. Cast Iron pots and pans. If you are used to washing your other cookware with soapy water with this one it is the exact opposite. Instead wipe it clean with a paper towel or cloth and in case when there is still food stuck on it use hot water to loosen them making it easier to remove. Do not forget to dry it completely by wiping it thoroughly and heating it on the stove until everything is dried up. Keep in mind that moisture will cause cast iron pots and pans to rust.
4. Copper Lined Cookware. Avoid using abrasive cleaners and materials or else the copper lining on your pots and pans will tarnish. When cleaning your copper lined cookware, hand wash it and at the same time use soapy water. After that, use a copper polish to keep the copper from tarnishing and at the same time preserve the beauty of your pot or pan.
5. For stainless steel cookware wash it with hot soapy water and a nylon scourging pad to remove food particles that are stuck on its surface. Stainless steel cookware are dishwasher safe however during the drying processes in the dishwasher water spots might form on the surfaces which is rather unsightly. To prevent water spots it would be best to take it out of the dishwasher before it is completely dry. Towel dry it and if possible apply stainless steel cleaners to remove other stains and at the same restore its previous shine.
