Six Ways To Take Care Of Your Cookware
Have you bought a really expensive cookware set and you are afraid to use it? This is usually the case if someone doesn't know how to take care of a good cookware set. In these cases, the cookware set usually end up just being great display pieces. But if you know how to take care of your cookware properly, then you might just enjoy what you are actually cooking than what you are looking at in the kitchen. Here are some ways that you can follow to take care of your cookware set so that it lasts a long time.
• Read the instructions – If you have a great cookware set, then you will notice that each of the items actually comes with a set of instructions on how to take care of it. Some pots and pans even have labels that tell you exactly what temperature of water you should use to wash them so that these don't crack or warp right after these have been used. Pay attention to these instructions so that you don't end up mistreating the expensive kitchen tools you just bought.
• Temperature – When you cook stuff, don't make it a race. You don't always need to cook at a high heat. Make sure that the temperature you use will not damage the bottom side of your pots and pans.
• Metal and Non-stick – The one thing that you should keep in mind is to not use anything metal with a non-stick pan. This will damage the non-stick material that is layered onto the pan which will render it useless.
• Washing your pots and pans – There are different ways you can wash your pots and pans and it really depends on what your pots and pans are made of. Most cookware, usually the most basic, can be popped into the dishwasher. Then there are others that need to be hand-washed. Others still should not be hand-washed if detergents are involved.
For example, when it comes to cleaning non-stick pans or cast iron woks you cannot use metal scrub pads because that can destroy the non-stick area or scratch up the base of the pan.
• Dry – When you make metal wet, you need to make sure that you dry it up before you store it. You never know when rust can attack pieces of metal. You also don't want any rust getting into your food while you are cooking. It is important to keep metal cookware extremely dry after washing so a good wiping might be called for.
• Storage – Got a good rack for storing pots and pans? If you don't, make sure that you have one or that you have one made for your kitchen. This is the best kind of storage instead of stacking things up in a pile inside a cabinet. Your pots and pans need to be aired out properly at all times and these shouldn't be stacked on top of each other to avoid any dents or scratches. This will keep the condition of your cookware in top shape so that it will last for a long time.
