Nine Tips To Keep Your Kitchen Safe
When preparing a dish, you may need to use more than one cookware. For example, you may need to use a skillet and a steamer or a frying pan and broiler. The use of more than one cookware can surely make any kitchen crowded. A crowded kitchen is not only hard to work at; it can also be deemed unsafe. So here are some safety tips for you.
1. Have a small garbage bin close at hand. This will serve as the container for your peelings and other trash like opened cans or plastic containers. With a small garbage bin, you won't have to pile up the trash in one corner. Along with that, your work space is cleaner too.
2. Keep the sharp utensils away from the edge of the counter. This is due to the fact that when you are preparing food you tend to move around a lot. The risk of the knives falling down the floor is very high. This is not safe as a knife can land on your foot. So keep it as far away from the edge as possible. If knives are kept in a container, keep the container away from the edge of the counter.
3. If you have unused appliances on your countertop, you might want to remove that or transfer that to another area. You can surely use the extra space. Having a spacious kitchen counter top will allow you to move more and do things more.
4. If you are using more than one cookware, you can always wash either one after use and then use it in cooking another dish unless the other dish has to be baked. Doing this will keep you from using more and more cookware. Piling up cookware while cooking will result to a rather crowded stove which makes it prone to spillage.
5. Clean other utensils such as plates and bowls after using. Placing them back in the rack will give you enough space to work with. Remember that space is crucial when working in the kitchen. This will reduce the risk of you dropping them which will result to a lot more clutter.
6. When cleaning your cookware, use the appropriate type of sponge to clean them. For example, if you are cleaning a teflon coated cookware, it is best to use a soft sponge because once you scratch the teflon coating its non-stick effect will be altered.
7. If possible, change your cleaning sponge as often as possible. Remember that bacteria breeds in moist areas and the sponge is an ideal breeding space for them. If you can't afford to keep on changing sponges, take time to sterilize them by washing them in hot water every two days or once a week.
8. Take time to check on your cookware. You can do this when you are washing them after use. You can check for loosened handles, scratched surfaces, cracked covers and many more. Keep in mind that for your cookware to work efficiently it has to be in tip top shape.
9. Keep the kitchen floor tidy and clean. Sweep the floor before and after using the kitchen and while you are preparing dishes, avoid dropping anything on the floor. This is done to reduce the risk of you stepping on it and staining the floor or worse slipping.
